2026 WOMENS FISHING CLASSIC

AMBASSADORS

Fiona Allen

Hi there, my name is Fiona and I’ve been Kayak fishing for about 4 yrs but have been around fishing since I was a kid. To say that I love my yak fishing is an understatement, I generally try to get out for a yak fishing session once every weekend. I have a bright red Hobie kayak, you can’t miss it. My yak’s name is ‘Donkey’ (think of Shrek and you’ll get it), it’s my trusty steed on the water. I love to fish freshwater and saltwater. When it comes to saltwater I’ll tend to stick to the estuary’s, creeks and rivers, occasionally I’ll explore out the front in the bay areas but not too far out (too much swell and I’ll create my own burley).

Some of my fav/pb catches in the yak are: 74 cm Flatty, 53.5 cm Bass, 46 cm Murray Cod (yet I still want a bigger Cod). Half the fun of fishing is catching a fish, the other half I love is just being on the water and immersing myself with nature, even if it’s admiring a huge tree in deep waters in the Dams. You can’t not be impressed by mother nature and how she works. The other part that I love doing is going out with others for a fish and helping others that are new to yak fishing to share with them helpful tips that have worked for me (or my fellow fish buddies) or even how I have my yak set up. Others have helped me with my journey of yak fishing, and I’d like to help others that are just starting yak fishing.

Regardless of where I’m fishing, I’m always willing to help another person out if they need help. It’s great fishing etiquette and I’d like to think that if I ever needed help, that someone would be there to help me out. If you’re in the SE Qld region and just starting out fishing or just want a yak fishing buddy to go out with, let me know and we may be able to meet up.

I grew up fishing out of my uncle’s tinny in the Pumicestone Passage, around Toorbul and Bribie Island. From my very first trip, I was hooked. Beach fishing for whiting quickly became my favourite, and to this day, I still love sneaking back to Bribie for a good whiting session whenever I can.
Later, I spent several years living in Arizona, where I discovered freshwater fishing. I explored lakes across the state and even fished trout streams in the stunning mountain regions of the Apache region. Those mountain lakes were something special—but bass fishing truly stole my heart.
Whether it’s planning short sessions around solunar bite times or switching to bait fishing to reduce casting, I find ways to stay connected to what I love. I truly believe fishing should be inclusive—no matter your circumstances, there’s always a way to get out there.
The Women’s Fishing Classic (WFC) has been life-changing for me. In 2023, I joined knowing I wasn’t in a position to compete strongly—I’d barely been fishing. So, I crossed all fingers and toes, hoping for a miracle… and somehow, I won the boat!
A huge thank you to Wynnum Marine and Johnny for their incredible support, and to Club Marine for the insurance. That win got me back out on the water more than ever, and I’m still loving every minute of it.
This past year, I’ve continued to learn and grow, thanks to the support of other women in the community. A special shoutout to Ryan Vines from Capn Charters, who has taught me so much about using plastics for flatties. With that guidance, I’ve landed some incredible fish—77cm, 80cm, and consistent 65–66cm models.
WFC connects me with an incredible community of women who support and inspire each other. Even on days when I can’t fish, I love cheering everyone on online.
That’s what drives me—seeing women out there fishing, having fun, and enjoying our beautiful waterways. Whether it’s on the boat, the beach, or in the bush, there’s nothing better.
Let’s go get ’em, ladies!

My name is Bec, and I’m proud to have been invited to be an ambassador for the Women’s Fishing Classic. I have fished in the WFC every year since 2021, and I look forward to it each year. A few weeks of extra motivation to ignore most responsibility and go fishing as often as I can with the chance at prizes and glory? Don’t mind if I do! 😂

I even won the Mahi Mahi category in 2024 & got some great prizes thanks to WFC & the awesome sponsors. If all that “glory and prizes” talk has you thinking you “don’t have what it takes”, don’t worry! The WFC is very inclusive from beginners to experienced fishos, there’s a category for everyone! Plus, you don’t even need to catch a single fish to win the major prize which is a BOAT!
I have been fishing since I was very young, joining Dad fishing offshore before I can even remember, and working in the family charter business BK’s Gold Coast Fishing Charters since I was 14 in 2000 (yep, 26 years! 😱)
Dad retired in 2020 when my partner, Kaleb, and I took over the business. BK’s has always opened our arms to ladies & families, so when I heard about the WFC it was definitely something I had to do. We have since taken countless WFC ladies on mixed charters, and ladies only charters and look forward to more to come.

As well as the chance to win glory and prizes, I enjoy the WFC because it creates an awesome social aspect, and I personally have made many friends & memories through this event, whether it’s fishing together or meeting at the briefing or presentation. It also makes me think outside the box, fishing different areas and times to suit conditions which often results in even more learning opportunities.

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask! You can find me on Instagram @beach2reef_adventures or just tag me in a post in the WFC group 😃
Thanks for having me, WFC! 🎣
