Meet our competition shirt artist

sneak peak of 2025 shirt design currently in development

My names Bradley Beckett, I’m 21 years old and born in Brisbane but grew up on the sunshine and coast and moved to Morayfield when I was young. My families mobs are yugerra and waka waka. I got into painting through my love of rugby league, I’ve always loved the NRLs indigenous round jerseys and I’ve always loved the idea of seeing my designs running around on the field. I started practising by designing university and local league teams and my goal is to eventually design nrl and other major sports team indigenous jerseys.

The story of the shirt is rooted in our connection to the sea and wildlife. It celebrates the women’s fishing classics fifth year anniversary and the five meeting places represent this great achievement. The double outlined zigzag running through the jersey represents the ocean running along the QLD coast as the challenge runs from the tip of Inskip Point to Tweed River. The five fish on the front and back of the shirt represent the five fish most caught fish during last years challenge these fish are the Red Snapper, Whiting and Bream on the front and Flathead and Pearl Perch on the back. The black and grey dots weaving throughout the top of the shirt and the sleeves represent the ocean and river currents. The white and grey lines represent the major rivers of QLD such as the Noosa River and the Maroochy River. The dolphins and turtles running down the sleeves represent our people’s connections and relationships with the wildlife in particular the dolphins where our ancestors would communicate with the dolphins along the Sunshine Coast, the dolphins would drive fish to the shore where the people were waiting with spears and nets, the dolphins were never hunted and would share in the catch.
